Cal beats Syracuse 21-18 in Atlantic Coast Conference opener

Cal defeated Syracuse 21-18 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Friday in the opening game of the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule for the Orange. Syracuse held a 12-0 lead in the second quarter before Cal rallied to take the lead in the third. Quarterback Steve Angeli struggled for Syracuse, completing 24 of 49 passes for 306 yards with three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Orange were further hampered by 15 penalties for 132 yards and two missed field goals in the fourth quarter. Running back Tylik Hill left the game early due to an injury after only two carries.
