Power surge causes brief stadium light outage during Houston and Southern game

A power surge caused the lights at TDECU Stadium to go out late in the first half of the Saturday game between the University of Houston and Southern. The interruption occurred with less than two minutes remaining before the halftime break. Although stadium lights failed as the sun set around 7:32 p.m., game officials decided to continue play in semi-dark conditions for several minutes. The venue's scoreboard and video ribbons remained powered throughout the incident. School officials confirmed that the outage resulted from a power surge, and electricity was restored shortly after the disruption. Houston leads 49-0 at halftime as the game remains in progress.
