Canandaigua defeats Honeoye Falls-Lima 41-20 in high school football opener

Sophomore quarterback Austin Kierst led Canandaigua to a 41-20 victory over Honeoye Falls-Lima on Friday in the Section V high school football season opener. Kierst accounted for five total touchdowns, recording three on the ground and two through the air. Although Honeoye Falls-Lima erased an early deficit to tie the game at 14, a third-quarter kickoff return touchdown by George Mirras restored momentum for the Gray Wolves. Canandaigua capitalized on several errors by the Cougars, including two fumbles and a muffed punt, to control field position throughout the contest. Kierst connected with Aleks Hawryschuk and Declan Cooney for his passing scores, with the final touchdown coming on a goal-line fade late in the fourth quarter. Sam Oliver tallied two rushing scores for the Cougars, while Benny Feinberg added a touchdown pass to Grady Goodberlet.
