Top-seeded Grand View Christian lost to No. 8 Cardinal 4-3 in their Iowa state softball tournament opener on July 20 at the Rogers Sports Complex. Cardinal's Maclain Hickenbottom excelled on the mound, allowing only four hits and recording nine strikeouts. Grand View fell behind early, trailing 4-1 but made a comeback attempt in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. However, Hickenbottom secured the victory by retiring the side in the final two innings. Grand View Christian, now in the losers bracket, holds a 27-4 record and will have another chance to compete on July 21.
