Cardinals pitcher Hunter Dobbins faces one-year recovery after elbow surgery

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins underwent reconstructive elbow surgery on Wednesday to address a torn UCL and flexor tendon. The procedure will sideline the 27-year-old for at least 12 months, placing his availability for the 2027 season in question. Dobbins last appeared in a game on August 21 against the Philadelphia Phillies before being placed on the injured list the following day. This surgery marks the second time in his career that Dobbins has required a procedure on his right elbow, with his previous Tommy John surgery occurring in 2021. The Cardinals currently hold a 70-70 record and remain 3.5 games out of a National League Wild Card spot as they complete a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dobbins concludes his 2026 campaign with an 11-appearance stretch, including eight starts, recording a 3.67 ERA across 54 innings.
