- 2:19 AMCageside Seats — Chelsea Green doesn’t care if the internet hated her WWE title match against Nia Jax
"Chelsea Green successfully defended the interim WWE women’s championship for the first time last week (Sept. 11) on SmackDown with a win over Nia Jax in Mexico City. In an interview this week on Notsam Wrestling, Green said she thought they had a hell of a match, but that’s not the reaction she saw online after it was over. “Yes, I did break my orbital bone, and then I wrestled Nia. And I thought it was a banger of a match, but the internet told me otherwise. [laughs] One thing about them, they stay humbling me. For 13 years I can’t get a big head.” After Chelsea’s husband Matt Cardona reminded her that nobody tweets about a good flight, she decided to focus on the people whose opinions she trusts. “Look, my friends are also very real with me. Jordynne Grace [is] very, very real, whether I want to hear it or not. She told me she liked the match. That’s who I trust. Oh, she would tell me in depth [if she didn’t like it]. …The problem is, is that I always preach if I’m gonna believe the good stuff, I have to believe the bad stuff. And I do stand by that. But then it’s like, okay right now, oof, I better not believe anything.” Green said it’s “jarring” when there is such a disconnect between the reaction in the venue compared to fans on the internet. “It feels real personal, especially when Mexico City tells you that it was amazing, and they are loud the whole time. And you come back feeling like, ‘Yes! I just I entertained the shit out of them!’ You know what I mean? And then you get a whole different opinion elsewhere. It’s very jarring.” She admitted that the internet reaction can be overwhelming to process, which is related to why she deleted her X account. “No, it’s deafening. So at the end of the day, you just have to touch grass. But I’ve always preached to touch grass. That’s why I don’t have X anymore, because I have to stay touching grass, or else, seriously, you will spiral.” There are so many trolls and tribal fans out there on social media that it’s probably for the best to ditch those platforms altogether it’s too much to deal with. That approach does sometimes make it harder for helpful criticism and other ways of thinking to break through, but I can’t blame Chelsea for her reaction, especially knowing that women generally face a more disturbing and obsessive fan response on social media. Did you think Green’s WWE title defense against Jax was very good, very bad, or somewhere in between? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
