Chelsea Green returns to WWE ring amid injury concerns on SmackDown

This is the fourth episode of SmackDown during the nine week build to Money in the Bank, which takes place on October 10. Chelsea Green is returning to the ring way too soon It was two weeks ago when SmackDown GM Nick Aldis spoke with WWE’s medical team and decided that he needed to strip Chelsea Green of the interim WWE women’s championship due to her broken orbital bone. Green responded with an emotional promo where she convinced Aldis to give her up to 30 days to figure out how to get cleared to compete. Even though she wasn’t medically cleared, Chelsea did a run in on SmackDown last week wearing heels but with no protection on her face, and got physical by using a kendo stick to save Tiffany Stratton from a beatdown by the Irresistible Forces. Green is taking things up a notch tonight when she returns to the ring with a bedazzled face mask to team up with Stratton for a tag match against Nia Jax and Lash Legend. The fact that Green is already back in the ring just 14 days after she was almost stripped of the belt tells me that either Aldis jumped the gun in looking to take away her title so quickly, or the interim champ is returning to the ring way too soon. If it’s the latter case, then Green risks further injury tonight and is putting her title reign in jeopardy. Jax has a history of breaking faces and is dangerous in the ring, after all, so she’ll probably be more interested in targeting Chelsea’s injury than winning this match. The rest of the card Women’s United States Champion Jacy Jayne defends her belt tonight against Paige. This is Paige’s first match since she was betrayed by the Bella Twins at SummerSlam, and it’s also Jacy’s first title defense. Will Nikki Bella decide to attack Paige before, during, or after the match? Why not all three? Tatum Paxley is a bit strange and wrestles for the first time on SmackDown tonight when she steps in the ring with low card henchwoman Michin. Will Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Jade Cargill, and B-Fab eventually all show up for a wild brawl that sets up a future 6-woman tag team match? Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are both in the building tonight. They are not allowed to touch each before before their match at Sunday Night’s Main Event. Anyone who breaks that rule will never be allowed to challenge for the WWE championship ever again. Which line will Orton cross while trash talking Rhodes on the mic to get him to snap and make the worst decision of his WWE career? Kevin Owens and WWE Champion CM Punk are also both in the building tonight, one week after Sami Zayn’s interference led to Punk beating Owens in a title match. CM had a smile on his face when he saw what happened between KO and Zayn, but that smile soon vanished when Sami laid him out too after the match. Is this angle leading to a three way title match? Will Finn Balor and/or GUNTHER crash the party to remind everyone that they want the next shot at Punk’s belt? Other stuff to keep an eye on – Blake Monroe didn’t think Giulia was a worthy opponent for her debut match on SmackDown. That’s why she attacked Giulia before their scheduled match, which ended up never happening as a result. Is it time for Giulia to return the favor tonight, or is she too much of a jabroni to figure out how to get revenge on The Glamour? – United States Champion Baron Corbin gets five minutes alone in the ring with Lil Yachty at Sunday Night’s Main Event. If Yachty is still alive when the clock expires, then Trick Williams gets another rematch for the gold. What kind of plan will Trick come up with to ensure that Yachty survives Corbin’s very tallness in the ring? – Shinsuke Nakamura’s new partner Kyoki apparently loves chaos and madness. How soon will Kyoki show off what he’s all about in the ring at the expense of WWE Tag Team Champions Tama and Talla Tonga? – Fatal Influence might hold on to the WWE women’s tag team championship for a very long time given the lack of contenders on SmackDown. Instead of finding their next challengers, will Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid be more focused on watching Jacy Jayne’s back tonight? – Is Damian Priest ready to return to singles competition and get away from teaming so much with R-Truth now that their tag title pursuit appears to be over? – Will The Miz and Kit Wilson make it back on TV tonight now that they are no longer Danhausen’s electrocuted zombies?
