Christian Gonzalez remains uncertain about contract status ahead of Patriots opener

Summary

Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez has not confirmed whether he will participate in the team's September 9 season opener against the Seahawks. Gonzalez is currently playing under his initial rookie contract, which pays $4.8 million this season, but he is seeking a deal consistent with top-tier league cornerbacks. When asked if a new contract could be finalized before the upcoming Wednesday game, Gonzalez stated he did not know. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel noted his expectation that every healthy player under contract should practice and play, though he acknowledged that plans may adjust based on individual circumstances. The upcoming contest in Seattle marks the first Wednesday season opener for the NFL since 2012.
