The donation amount references the cost of a flight that resulted in an NCAA suspension for the player prior to the start of the 2026 season. Media personality Clay Travis subsequently pledged to match the $427 contribution for every tackle Carter makes. Carter, who missed the team's opening 56-9 victory against Furman, cited his girlfriend’s ongoing treatment for breast cancer as a primary motivation for the initiative.
