Cleveland Browns place quarterback Dillon Gabriel on injured reserve

The Cleveland Browns have placed quarterback Dillon Gabriel on injured reserve following a back injury sustained during the team's preseason finale against the New England Patriots. Head coach Todd Monken stated the injury occurred during a zone-read play, resulting in discomfort that currently prevents the quarterback from throwing. Under NFL rules, the designation forces Gabriel to miss at least the first four games of the regular season while remaining under contract with the franchise. Zo Gabriel confirmed on social media that her husband is expected to recover. Cleveland currently carries Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, and Taylen Green on its active quarterback roster. Gabriel, who signed with the team last year, recorded 186 passing yards and three touchdowns in his final preseason appearance. His placement on the injured reserve list allows the Browns to maintain his roster rights without utilizing an active 53-man spot.
