Club Reign eyes Champagne Stakes after maiden victory at Saratoga

Trainer Whit Beckman is considering the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes for Club Reign following the colt's six-length maiden victory at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday. Co-owned by NFL quarterback Russell Wilson, the 2-year-old completed six furlongs in 1:11.27 and earned a 73 Beyer Speed Figure. Beckman noted that the colt's trajectory could mirror that of Uncle Mo, who won his maiden at Saratoga on Travers Day before taking the Champagne Stakes in 2010. While the October 3 race at Belmont Park remains a potential target, the connections are prepared to provide additional time if the colt requires a slower development pace. Elsewhere on the Travers Day card, Napoleon Solo placed second in the Travers, with his connections now eyeing the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland as the next step in his schedule.
