CMLL clarifies status of Tessa Blanchard regarding MLW appearance

Tessa Blanchard was originally scheduled to compete on MLW's September 12 show, but after confusion, she will be wrestling on CMLL's show on the same day.

Last week, Tessa Blanchard was excited to announce that she would debut in MLW for the Fightland event on September 12 in Charleston, South Carolina. Then, things got weird. Later in the week, CMLL released a statement stating that Blanchard was only scheduled for that one date with MLW. There were no future arrangements. The statement came across as an odd thing to say when there didn’t appear to be any chatter about this MLW appearance causing negative issues. After all, Blanchard is signed with CMLL, and CMLL has a strategic alliance with MLW to send wrestlers back and forth. Earlier this week, it appeared that MLW pulled the promotional material hyping Blanchard’s appearance. It still wasn’t clear what is going on. Now comes some clarity on the situation. CMLL announced that Blanchard will wrestle Starlight Kid on their Saturday show at Arena Coliseo in Mexico City on September 12. That means Blanchard will not be at MLW Fightland. That’s not a lot of clarity, but it is some. Whatever happened behind the scenes is still a mystery for now. Receiving a singles match against one of Stardom’s stars wouldn’t normally be considered a punishment, so the assumption is that CMLL and Blanchard remain on good terms. Blanchard is also still booked to challenge Persephone for the CMLL World Championship in a four-way with Starlight Kid and Mina Shirakawa at the 93rd Anniversary show on September 18 at Arena Mexico in Mexico City. What’s your take on this story between Tessa Blanchard, CMLL, and MLW?

CMLL luchadora and former TNA star Tessa Blanchard has reportedly been removed from an MLW show, with her overall MLW status now being called into question

Major League Wrestling (MLW) and Tessa Blanchard recently made headlines when the promotion announced the controversial star would be wrestling for them at a September 12 event in Charleston, South Carolina. However, signs now point to that appearance having been possibly scratched. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that all mentions of Blanchard have been scrubbed from MLW’s website, including the press statement about her working the Charleston event. Tessa had made press rounds to promote the appearance, including speaking to TMZ’s Inside The Ring about her ultimate goal of winning the MLW women’s championship currently held by Shotzi Blackheart. “Heavy is the crown, but legacy isn’t handed to you… it’s forged under pressure. I’ve earned my place as one of the best in the world at what I do, but I’m not coming to MLW to rest on the Blanchard name,” she was quoted as saying in the promotion’s press release. “MLW is bringing some of the purest, hardest-hitting action in the sport today, and the Undeniable Diamond belongs right at the top of it.” Earlier this year, Blanchard left TNA when she was reportedly asked to choose between them and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). At the time, she said her heart was in Mexico. Following the news of Blanchard’s MLW appearance, CMLL release its own statement that affirmed she was still signed with the company and was only scheduled for the one MLW date. MLW has not released any official word on whether or not the deal for Blanchard is off. She also hasn’t commented on the matter, but her Instagram page still contains the original announcement she shared earlier this month. What do you think about Tessa Blanchard’s MLW appearance possibly being canceled? If it was scrapped, any speculation on which side called it off? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

This piece of news has me scratching my head. CMLL released a statement in regard to Tessa Blanchard, and I can’t figure out what prompted the need to. Blanchard has a checkered employment history, so my instant reaction was, “Damn, what now?” Turns out that the statement is nothing negative. It clarifies her status with the company. MLW recently announced that Blanchard will debut at the Fightland event on September 12 in Charleston, South Carolina. Apparently, that news made waves with fans wondering if this was the end of Blanchard’s time in CMLL. That is far from the case, at least for now. CMLL clarified that Blanchard’s participation with MLW is exclusively for that date. No future shows or championship matches have been arranged. There are no agreements with Blanchard, CMLL, and MLW beyond the Fightland event. 📄 COMUNICADO OFICIAL ✨ Tessa Blanchard pic.twitter.com/jim7MWQ4WI — Lucha Libre CMLL (@CMLL_OFICIAL) September 4, 2026 Well, that’s what I assumed was the case. Blanchard is signed with CMLL, and CMLL has a strategic alliance with MLW to send wrestlers for dates. The flow is both ways, but it is much more common for CMLL stars, such as Mistico, to head to MLW. So, why the statement? I don’t know, but that has me looking forward with conjecture. Blanchard is scheduled to challenge Persephone in a four-way for the CMLL Women’s World Championship at the 93rd Anniversary event in Arena Mexico on September 18. If Blanchard is supposed to win the title, I can see two reasons in play for the statement. First, CMLL wants to assure the fans that Blanchard isn’t going to win then immediately leave to another company. Second, it could be possible that plans leaked prematurely for Blanchard to defend the title in MLW. These are 100% conspiracy theories on my behalf. I haven’t seen any rumors or reports to back up either theory. What’s your take on the matter? Is this much ado about nothing?
