Court grants Indiana athletes temporary eligibility for upcoming competitions

A Monroe County Circuit Court judge issued a temporary restraining order on Friday, restoring eligibility to eight Indiana University athletes. The ruling permits football players Kellan Wyatt and Stephen Daley to participate in Indiana's upcoming game against North Texas. The order blocks the NCAA from enforcing rules regarding the five-years-to-play-five eligibility reform for athletes from the 2022 high school class. It also prevents the enforcement of the association's ghost transfer rule and requires the opening of the transfer portal for these athletes for seven days. Other affected athletes include Malik Reneau, Yohan Traore, Avry Tatum, Owen McDonald, Zalan Sarkany, and Jordan Johnson. The court scheduled an expedited hearing for September 11 to consider a motion for a temporary injunction, which will serve as a more permanent legal decision regarding the eligibility status of these athletes.
