Cowboys running back Malik Davis sustains serious hip injury at practice

Dallas Cowboys running back Malik Davis was carted off the practice field Friday after suffering a hip injury. Executive vice president Stephen Jones characterized the injury as serious and stated the player will miss significant time. The team has already ruled Davis out for the upcoming Sunday night opener against the New York Giants. Davis had recently secured the No. 2 running back role behind Javonte Williams following training camp and preseason competition. In his absence, Emari Demercado is expected to take on a larger role, while Israel Abanikanda remains an option from the practice squad. Dallas may also look to add veteran depth to the roster if the prognosis for Davis indicates an extended absence.
