Dan Turnbull prepares for first Great North Run to honor family tradition

Dan Turnbull is set to compete in his first Great North Run this year. The 25-year-old from South Shields aims to surpass the best time of 90 minutes established by his grandfather, Mel Turnbull. Mel Turnbull completed the event 27 times consecutively between 1981 and 2014. Dan Turnbull is fundraising for the MS Society, an organization that has supported his mother, Nicola Turnbull, following her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis in 2000. Data from the Great Run Company indicates that participation among runners aged 25 and under has nearly doubled over the past five years. Dan Turnbull plans to maintain his training regimen as he joins the field for his debut race.
