David Arquette expresses interest in AEW storylines and collaborations

(Photo By Getty Images) | Getty Images David Arquette, who had one of the most infamous title reigns in wrestling history when he held the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 2000, wants to get back in the wrestling business. He even has some ideas for AEW. The actor first crossed over in the world of professional wrestling when he starred in the 2000 comedy Ready to Rumble, which was based on WCW. The film featured many of the promotion’s biggest stars, and Arquette made appearances on WCW programming around the time of the movie’s release. He was soon wrestling for WCW, which led to the much-maligned match that saw him win the world title. An episode of WCW Thunder in April 2000 featured a tag team match between Arquette and Diamond Dallas Page (the champion) versus Jeff Jarrett and WCW executive Eric Bischoff. A stipulation was attached that the person who secured the pinfall would then become the champ, and David ended up pinning Bischoff. Arquette’s stint with the belt was incredibly unpopular with fans, but it fortunately ended after only 12 days. The actor wasn’t done with wrestling, though, and he eventually made his way to WWE in 2010, where he once teamed with Alex Riley in a losing effort to Randy Orton in a handicap match on Raw. Years later, Arquette decided to once again pursue his wrestling dreams and began competing on the independent circuit in 2018. A death match against Nick Gage from around this time made headlines for its brutality, and this run was chronicled by the 2020 documentary You Cannot Kill David Arquette. Arquette also almost made it to AEW in 2019 when he appeared with the Young Bucks on the Being the Elite show on YouTube. During a segment on the show, the actor approached Nick and Matt Jackson in order to talk to them about getting on AEW’s inaugural Double or Nothing pay-per-view event. The brothers refused his request and rewarded him with a double Superkick for his efforts. The actor recently participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, and he indicated that not only is he not done with thinking about wrestling, he even has some ideas for an angle in AEW. The Scream star was brought to the topic when a person wrote in to ask if he could make a sequel to any project he’s worked on, what project would it be? “I think if I was to make any sequel it would be Ready To Rumble,” Arquette replied. “There is such a huge love of wrestling and that film and there would be so much especially if WWE was involved.” He then added: “On a side note, I would love to do something on AEW. So many of my friends work there and I have unfinished business with Jeff Jarrett and would love to work with Jack Perry and sadly RJ City, not to mention Dalton Castle!” What do you think, Cagesiders?
