Dennis Allen comments on Bears safety Xavier Woods during training camp

Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen praised veteran safety Xavier Woods during a news conference on August 10, 2026. Woods, recently signed to help with injuries in the secondary, impressed in his first day of training camp, including a physical hit and an interception against quarterback Caleb Williams. Allen noted Woods' extensive experience and past success in various schemes, contributing to his fit within the Bears' defense. The team assesses Woods’ role as they evaluate the injuries to safeties Coby Bryant and Cam Lewis, which may allow Woods to see significant playing time early in the season.
