Dru Smith's role in Heat’s rotation remains uncertain for 2026-27

Summary

As the Miami Heat prepares for the 2026-27 season, the role of Dru Smith within the team’s rotation is being debated. Currently, nine out of ten rotation spots appear locked with established players like Davion Mitchell, Klay Thompson, and Bam Adebayo. Smith, along with Nikola Jovic and Simone Fontecchio, is vying for the final spot, but roster dynamics suggest he may face challenges securing minutes. Analysts argue that a backup point guard generally has better chances of playing time compared to additional shooting specialists. Miami’s offseason moves have strengthened its roster, raising expectations for potential playoff contention despite a competitive Eastern Conference.
