Dry weather conditions threaten upcoming horse racing fixtures

Extended dry weather across the region is putting the early horse racing season at risk of cancellation. Racecourses, including Wincanton Racecourse, report that ground conditions remain too hard for safe racing. Tom Ryall of Wincanton stated the track requires significant rainfall before their scheduled 25 October opening to avoid repeating last year's cancellations. While some venues utilize borehole water to maintain ground safety, others rely on natural precipitation to manage conditions. Trainer Paul Nicholls indicated that the lack of grass and firm ground are currently preventing horses from running. Racing officials continue to monitor weather forecasts as they assess the viability of early autumn fixtures.
