Emmanuel Wanyonyi broke the men's 1,000m world record at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco on July 10, finishing in 2:11.83. The previous record stood for 27 years and was held by fellow Kenyan Noah Ngeny. Wanyonyi, also the reigning Olympic and world 800m champion, outpaced Great Britain's Jake Wightman, who recorded a personal best of 2:12.77.
