Fan zone in Madrid cancels activities due to extreme heat ahead of World Cup match

Summary

Madrid's fan zone at Plaza de Colón is suspending activities on Sunday, June 21, for the World Cup match between Spain and Saudi Arabia. The decision follows an orange weather alert predicting temperatures up to 39 degrees Celsius, which coincides with match time. The City Council activated Emergency Phase and Operational Situation 1 due to public health risks associated with the heat. Authorities recommend viewing the match from air-conditioned spaces instead of in the open. Currently, there is no information on whether the fan zone will reopen in the days following the match.
