Federal court dismisses lawsuit involving Cortez Braham and the NCAA

A federal court dismissed a legal challenge brought by former Memphis football receiver Cortez Braham against the NCAA on Sept. 9. The case, which began in 2025, centered on Braham’s request for an additional year of eligibility. Although he received a preliminary injunction that allowed him to play for Memphis during the 2025 season, the NCAA sought to apply a rule of restitution to punish the university for his participation. Judge Gabriel P. Sanchez ruled the case moot, citing the conclusion of the 2025 season and the expiration of the preliminary injunctions. Consequently, the court found no remaining effective relief for the NCAA to pursue. The ruling also effectively closed a combined legal case involving former San Diego State player Tatuo Martinson.
