Evangelical Christian School softball coach Johnny Manetta has been suspended for the 2026-27 season following allegations of recruiting violations and impermissible benefits by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). The association imposed a $5,000 fine on Manetta and placed ECS on administrative probation for a year, also fining the school $2,500. The investigation started after a report in January 2026 claimed that a player and her father were given housing by Manetta. Manetta stated he was blindsided by the decision and plans to appeal, claiming the FHSAA did not allow him to present his side of the story before the ruling was made. The situation arose partially due to a text message Manetta sent to the player, which was deemed a recruiting violation. ECS self-reported the violations on June 1, 2026.
