Forever Young headlines the Jockey Club Gold Cup at reopened Belmont Park

Belmont Park reopens this Friday following a three-year, $455 million renovation, with the Grade 1, $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup serving as the featured event. The seven-horse field for the 1 ¼-mile race is headlined by the Japanese runner Forever Young, who enters as the reigning Breeders' Cup Classic champion and the highest-earning racehorse in history. Forever Young will break from the far outside post in his first New York start, joined by contenders including Phileas Fogg, Baeza, and Stars and Stripes. The race serves as a qualifying event for this year's Breeders' Cup Classic, awarding an automatic spot to the winner. Country musician Dierks Bentley is scheduled to perform during the reopening program, which will be broadcast on Fox.
