Former Morehead State basketball coach Wayne Martin dies at age 79

Wayne Martin, who served as the head coach of the Morehead State men's basketball team from 1977 to 1987, died on August 29 in Winchester, Kentucky. He was 79. During his decade at the helm, Martin guided the Eagles to two NCAA Tournament appearances and earned Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors twice. Following his coaching career, he spent 25 years in the broadcasting industry, eventually serving as the president and general manager of WKYT-TV in Lexington. Martin remained involved with Morehead State through his service on the university's Board of Regents and was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. Funeral services are scheduled for September 4 at First Christian Church in Winchester.
