Gio Rojas named Broward County 7A-5A player of the year

Gio Rojas of Stoneman Douglas has been recognized as the Broward County 7A-5A player of the year for the second consecutive season. Over three years, Rojas started 31 games and was the winning pitcher in 28 of them, finishing his senior year with an 11-1 record and leading Broward County with 124 strikeouts. His senior performance was highlighted by a dominant outing in the state championship game against national No. 1 Venice, where he struck out 12 batters and allowed just one hit over 6 2/3 innings. Following high school, Rojas is projected as a top pick in this summer’s MLB draft but also signed with Miami.
