Girls flag football camp attracts 160 participants in Salinas

More than 160 girls participated in the inaugural Banderas United flag football camp at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas on June 10. The event aimed to introduce flag football to young women across the U.S. and Mexico, featuring drills led by 12 coaches from the Central Coast. Funded by the HER is US Foundation, the camp promotes athletics and mentorship, with plans for further camps in cities including San Jose and San Diego. Flag football will debut as an Olympic sport in 2028, with increasing participation at the high school and collegiate levels, reflecting the sport's rapid growth.
