Guilford secures 21-7 victory over Amity in season opener

Guilford opened its football season with a 21-7 victory against Amity on Thursday at Kavanaugh Field. The Grizzlies secured a 21-0 lead by halftime, bolstered by a 56-yard completion from quarterback Ryan Lynch to Reed Hovick and a 29-yard touchdown pass to Ben Mennone. Junior running back Shane Connelly added a 14-yard rushing score, while Chase Hall returned a backward pitch 40 yards for a defensive touchdown. Amity prevented a shutout late in the game when Colt Snowden connected with Tyler McDaniel for a 10-yard touchdown score. Despite rushing for 177 yards, John Courtney and the Spartans were hampered by multiple fumbles throughout the contest. Guilford moves to 1-0 on the season following the Southern Connecticut Conference win, while Amity drops to 0-1.
