Houston Astros maintain narrow lead in tight American League West division

Summary

The Houston Astros hold first place in the American League West with a 69-68 record as of September 1, 2026. Despite a general manager change during August, the team remains atop the division, bolstered by Yordan Alvarez who currently leads the league in Triple Crown categories. The Texas Rangers sit two games back in second place, struggling to convert strong offensive metrics into a higher run total. The Seattle Mariners trail by five games following a significant decline in performance from key contributors compared to the previous season. Meanwhile, the Athletics have fallen to fourth place after a 36-70 run following an early-season lead in April.
