Houston Rockets' Reed Sheppard emerges as potential trade target

Summary

Reed Sheppard, a 2024 NBA Draft No. 3 overall pick by the Houston Rockets, is now viewed as a likely trade candidate ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season. This shift stems from the Rockets' crowded backcourt, especially after acquiring Marcus Smart and the return of Fred VanVleet, who missed the previous season. Sheppard's increased playing time last season, while filling in for VanVleet, has raised questions about his role under head coach Ime Udoka. Analysts suggest that Sheppard may become a trade discussion topic if he is positioned behind the veterans on the team's depth chart.
