Illinois opened its college football season with a 42-23 victory over UAB at Gies Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. The contest remained competitive through the first half until a late touchdown pass from Katin Houser to Ty Robinson provided the Fighting Illini with a 21-13 advantage heading into the break. Houser completed 13 of 17 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score.
