Illinois defeats UAB 42-23 behind strong offensive performances

Illinois opened its college football season with a 42-23 victory over UAB at Gies Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. The contest remained competitive through the first half until a late touchdown pass from Katin Houser to Ty Robinson provided the Fighting Illini with a 21-13 advantage heading into the break. Houser completed 13 of 17 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score. Collin Dixon provided a significant boost to the receiving corps with two touchdown catches, and Ca'Lil Valentine recorded 88 rushing yards on 11 carries. On defense, Ismael Kante contributed a pick-six to help secure the win. Illinois now turns its focus to a matchup against Duke scheduled for September 12.
