IndyCar tests Dallara IR28 chassis on Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval

The Dallara IR28 IndyCar chassis is scheduled for its first oval track test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on September 9 and 10. Testing will take place on the 2.5-mile track from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. This session follows three days of evaluations conducted on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course during August, which featured drivers Alexander Rossi and Alex Palou. While specific test drivers for the oval session remain unannounced, IndyCar and Dallara aim for the new chassis to eventually surpass long-standing track records. Following this phase, the chassis will be sent to engine manufacturers Chevrolet and Honda for integration of 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engines and hybrid powertrains. Teams are scheduled to receive the new chassis in June 2027.
