Infielder Buddy Kennedy signs minor-league contract with Washington Nationals

Infielder Buddy Kennedy signed a minor-league contract with the Washington Nationals on Wednesday following his departure from the San Francisco Giants. The Giants designated Kennedy for assignment on August 27 and subsequently outrighted him to Triple-A Sacramento. After rejecting the assignment and electing free agency, Kennedy secured the deal with Washington and has been assigned to the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings. Kennedy spent the 2026 season between the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Mariners, appearing at first, second, and third base. Over 49 MLB plate appearances this year, he hit.116 with one RBI. The Washington Nationals move provides the infielder with an opportunity to continue his season within their minor-league system after a period of organizational transition.
