Iowa prepares for Cy-Hawk game after earning coaches poll ranking

Iowa enters the upcoming week ranked No. 21 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll released September 8. The Hawkeyes moved up slightly from their preseason ranking of 22nd following a 40-0 victory over Northern Illinois to open the 2026 season. Running back Kamari Moulton recorded 183 rushing yards, while receiver Tony Diaz led the team with 84 receiving yards in his debut. The Hawkeyes outgained Northern Illinois by a 507-120 margin, bolstered by a special teams touchdown from Evan James. Iowa now turns its attention to a matchup against Iowa State for the Cy-Hawk rivalry. The Cyclones opened their season with a 38-10 win over Southeast Missouri State under new head coach Jimmy Rogers. Iowa State enters the rivalry game following the departure of former coach Matt Campbell to Penn State.
