Ciarán Ó Lionáird, the Irish athlete who represented Ireland in the 1500m at the 2012 London Olympics, passed away in Montreal at the age of 38. Ó Lionáird won a bronze medal in the 3000m at the 2013 European Indoors and faced numerous injury setbacks throughout his career. Though he competed in his first Games in 2012, injury hindered his performance, finishing 13th in his heats. After a brief return to the sport, he retired again in 2020 without competing in the Tokyo Olympics due to illness. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
