James Rodriguez negotiates a potential transfer to Serie B club Avellino

Free agent James Rodriguez is in advanced discussions to sign with Italian Serie B club Avellino. The 35-year-old midfielder has held lengthy talks with head coach Alessandro Nesta regarding a move to Italy. Rodriguez most recently played for Major League Soccer side Minnesota United before departing to focus on his international duties with Colombia during the 2026 World Cup. During that tournament, he started all five of Colombia's matches before the team was eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16. A veteran of several European leagues, including stints with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, this potential agreement would represent his first appearance in the Italian league system. Avellino currently sits fifth in the Serie B table with two wins and one loss in their first three matches of the season.
