Jared Jones and Konnor Griffin lead Pirates past Angels

Jared Jones delivered six scoreless innings and Konnor Griffin scored the lone run to guide the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night at PNC Park. Jones surrendered three hits and one walk while recording nine strikeouts, snapping a seven-start winless streak for the pitcher. In the second inning, Griffin scored from first base on a double by Jake Mangum to provide the only offense of the contest. The Angels threatened in the same inning with runners on the corners and no outs, but Jones escaped the jam unscathed. Mason Montgomery earned his ninth save of the season to secure the result. The Pirates activated Griffin from the 60-day injured list prior to the game and designated Christian Bethancourt for assignment. Pittsburgh continues the series against the Angels on Saturday night.
