Jeremiah Smith records two touchdowns in Ohio State victory over Ball State

Ohio State opened its season with a 56-3 win against Ball State at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 5. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith recorded eight catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns during the first half. Quarterback Julian Sayin targeted Smith on 10 of the Buckeyes' 40 offensive plays before the starters were pulled for the second half. Coach Ryan Day noted that the team intentionally managed Smith's workload to keep him prepared for a scheduled game against Texas. The win marked the debut of Arthur Smith as the team's offensive coordinator, following his tenure in the NFL. Ohio State intends to continue building the chemistry between Sayin and Smith as the season progresses.
