Kenny Bednarek, a Rice Lake alumnus, clocked 19.62 seconds in the 200 meters on August 27 in Zurich, Switzerland, marking the fastest time in the world for 2026. He won the event by 0.20 seconds over Jaden Reid, who previously set a time of 19.63 seconds in Eugene, Oregon, in June. Bednarek's latest performance matches the time he recorded for his silver medal finish in Paris in 2024 but is 0.05 seconds shy of his personal best of 19.57 seconds, also achieved in Zurich. With this victory, Bednarek continues to showcase his elite sprinting abilities as he holds multiple state records in Wisconsin.
