Kentucky court denies NCAA appeal of athlete eligibility lawsuit

The Kentucky Court of Appeals denied the NCAA’s request to stay a temporary restraining order on Friday, Sept. 4. This ruling allows a group of Class of 2022 athletes to compete during the 2026-27 season while their legal challenge against the NCAA’s age-based eligibility model proceeds. The lawsuit, originally filed in Jefferson County Circuit Court by 13 athletes on Aug. 21, was expanded on Sept. 2 to include more than two dozen participants. Among those affected are Louisville guard Seth Trimble and Kentucky defensive back Alex Afari Jr. While the legal matter remains ongoing, the court’s decision permits these athletes to suit up for their respective programs. Coaches for both Louisville and Kentucky continue to monitor the status of their eligible players as team operations proceed.
