- 12:30 AMCageside Seats — Kevin Owens works NXT, says nice things about main event talent
"Kevin Owens has been gone from NXT and working the main roster for long enough now that the developmental wing of WWE is an entirely different promotion than when he left it. That’s the idea, of course, but there have been legitimate wrestlers who have signed, gone through developmental, and become stars on the main roster since he was back there. All that is to say when NXT ran a three show loop through his neck of the woods in Canada and he was asked to appear, he didn’t hesitate to give his old friend Steve Corino an enthusiastic yes in response. Then he went out and worked the main event in Quebec alongside three of the top names in the current version of NXT: Tony D’Angelo, Shiloh Hill, and Kendal Grey. That foursome earned a victory over Birthright before Owens grabbed a microphone and a cut a promo for the live crowd that put his teammates over. “Another thing that really helped me say ‘yes’ when they asked me if I wanted to be part of this show was knowing that I’d get to share the ring with people that are shaping the future of what WWE will be. The four idiots we just beat — very talented idiots but still, you know, not the best attitude — and these three… I just said the future, quite frankly, I think you’re really looking at the present.” That’s one hell of an endorsement from a main roster star who is widely respected in the industry, especially seeing as it comes at a time when the story on NXT television has largely been about how the men’s division needs to step up. Agree with KO here? Or was it just hometown house show talk?
