Kofi and Austin Creed join AEW after leaving WWE

The artists formerly known as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods left WWE earlier this year, and it took zero seconds at all for speculation to run rampant that the duo would sign with AEW. To hear Tony Khan tell it, they didn’t jump the gun on anything, but as soon as he called it was clear there was interest on both sides. A deal was done and the tag team formerly known as The New Day became The New Level, using the names Kofi & Austin Creed. What’s more, they instantly won the AEW World Trios Championship alongside Swerve Strickland at the All In pay-per-view in London. Later in the show, they were out to showcase the tag team division in AEW, with multiple teams — The Young Bucks, FTR, and Motor City Machine Guns — confronting Edge & Christian after they retained the AEW tag team titles (by cheating, of course) against the same Bucks. It was quite the scene. It was also, as it turns out, the reason The New Level came to AEW, or so they said at the All In post-show media scrum. Creed: “So, I always think about this like personalities and relationships. Different people have different personalities. Sometimes they can grow together or grow apart. There’s no bad or good. You are excited about what you had, the things that you learned, but that relationship no longer was one that we felt we needed to be in. So to be able to look across the pond and see what was happening here, especially with the tag team scene… yes, we’re pro wrestlers, but as a child I wanted to be part of a tag team because I loved the fact that I could be there to protect my brother and he could be there to protect me. So being able to come to a place that admires that and wants to cultivate that like legendary tag teams and when those legendary teams are gone, the younger ones are fulfilling the prophecy and keeping it going. That’s what’s important to us, and to be able to do that is why we’re here.” Kofi would follow up with: “We just wanted to be part of the greatest tag team division in the history of wrestling, and that’s what it comes down to. To be able to mix it up with these guys, that’s why we are here.” They seem pretty happy, huh? "It feels like a dream."
