Leyton Orient sign midfielder Alex Gilbert to three-year contract

Leyton Orient secured midfielder Alex Gilbert on a three-year deal after the player reached free agency. The 24-year-old recently departed Middlesbrough at the end of the previous season. Because he was unattached, the transfer occurred outside of the standard window. Gilbert previously competed in the Championship and secured promotion from League One in 2025 during a loan spell with Charlton Athletic. Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens described the newcomer as an effective set-piece delivery specialist capable of filling roles as an eight or a ten. Gilbert indicated he held discussions with several other clubs before finalizing the move to the League One side.
