Auburn football and Southern Miss delayed their scheduled 6:55 p.m. CT kickoff on September 12 following the detection of lightning within 8 miles of Jordan-Hare Stadium. Venue officials issued a directive for fans in attendance to seek shelter in nearby buildings as inclement weather moved through the area. Both teams exited the field and returned to their respective locker rooms shortly before the game was set to begin. There is no immediate indication of a restart time, as officials wait for the storm to pass. Auburn enters the matchup following a 17-16 win over Baylor last weekend, while Southern Miss opened its season with a 49-3 victory against Alcorn State. The game remains in a weather-related holding pattern.
