Rapper Lil Yachty made headlines during WWE's SmackDown event on August 21 in Toronto, where he attacked Baron Corbin with a Kendo stick. Yachty has been integrated as a supporting character in the storyline of Trick Williams. His upcoming match at Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta will feature a stipulation: if he survives five minutes against Corbin, Williams will get a chance at the United States championship. Despite some fan backlash against celebrity involvement in WWE, Yachty is expected to remain involved with the organization as he trains at the Performance Center.

"TORONTO, CANADA - AUGUST 21: Lil Yachty attacks Barron Corbin with a Kendo Stick during SmackDown at Scotiabank Arena on August 21, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario. (Photo by Craig Melvin/WWE via Getty Images) | WWE via Getty Images WWE came under heavy fire for its use of celebrities around WrestleMania 42 a few months back, with the over exposure of guys like Pat McAfee — although ESPN clearly learned nothing from that — and Jelly Roll leading to a great deal of backlash from the most vocal of the fan base. It was strong enough, in fact, that both were quickly jettisoned and haven’t been heard from much since. One celebrity who has endured, however, is rapper Lil Yachty, a supporting character in the story of budding star Trick Williams. One of the reasons that has worked so well is because he hasn’t tried to be a main character himself, always acting only in support of the wrestler he’s been attached to. Even when WWE finally booked him in a match of sorts, at the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event show in Atlanta, it’s only with a special stipulation — if he can survive for just five minutes with Baron Corbin, Williams will get another shot at the United States championship that very same evening. Still, some fans have pushed back against using Yachty this way. From the sounds of it, though, he’s here to stay in WWE, at least for the time being. According to False Finish, Yachty will be working with WWE “for the foreseeable future” and he’s also been training at the Performance Center to prepare for his big match. What’s more, he’s earned the respect of those within WWE and the industry more generally because he’s taken his time within it seriously and dedicated so much of himself to it. This is clearly not a Travis Scott type of situation. Whether or not that will give us something entertaining when he wrestles Corbin in Atlanta remains to be seen. No matter what, though, we’re just going to have to deal with it. It’s not so bad, right?
