Little League pioneer Victoria Ruelas reflects on tournament history

Victoria Ruelas, formerly Victoria Brucker, competed in the 1989 Little League World Series as the second girl to participate in the tournament. Ruelas, now a high school teacher in Hawaii, remains active in baseball and continues to encourage young girls to pursue the sport. Her appearance in 1989 included becoming the first girl to record a hit and pitch in the event while representing Eastview Little League. She recently voiced support for current Little League players Carsynn Meyer and Kinley Rasmus, who represent the 25th and 26th girls to play in the competition. Meyer is scheduled to appear in the championship game on August 30, marking a milestone for female participants in the tournament. Ruelas continues to play baseball in women’s tournaments throughout the United States.
