London City Lionesses defeat Manchester United Women in season opener

Manchester United Women opened the season with a 2-1 loss against London City Lionesses. The home side took an early lead nine minutes into the match when a Janni Thomsen corner was deflected into the goal by Julia Zigiotti. Despite second-half efforts from Manchester United, including a late opportunity for Jess Park and a header from Simi Awujo that hit the net's exterior, London City extended their lead. Danielle Van de Donk scored with a header off the post to put the game out of reach. Simi Awujo managed to score for Manchester United in the 100th minute, but the goal came too late to change the result. The team will face Chelsea on September 13th.
