Louisiana hosts Lamar in 2026 college football season opener

Louisiana begins its 2026 college football campaign today by hosting Lamar at Cajun Field at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lafayette as head coach Michael Desormeaux enters his fifth year with the program. The Ragin’ Cajuns are looking to improve upon their 6-7 finish from last season, with junior quarterback Lunch Winfield expected to lead the offensive effort. Lamar enters the matchup coming off a victory against Abilene Christian on August 29. The two programs last met in 2012, a contest that resulted in a 40-0 win for Louisiana. The game will be available to viewers via the ESPN+ streaming service.
