East Baton Rouge Parish Judge William Jorden granted a request for an injunction against the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference on Thursday night, preventing the organizations from taking action against dozens of players seeking a fifth year of college eligibility. The ruling came after an all-day hearing involving 51 plaintiffs, including LSU players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. While the judge initially ruled that the SEC could only serve as a co-defendant for a small number of plaintiffs, he later enjoined both the NCAA and the SEC from punishing athletes who choose to return to school. Separately, the SEC initiated a federal lawsuit against LSU, its athletic department, and head coach Lane Kiffin. The court action occurs as schools face a Friday deadline to submit final rosters for the upcoming season to the NCAA and their respective conferences.
