Lower Hudson Valley schools nominate four teams for weekly honor

The Journal News has opened voting for the Team of the Week award, presented by White Plains Hospital, covering varsity sports in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam counties from August 29 through September 6. Four programs have been nominated for the public poll, which remains open until 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 8. Horace Greeley field hockey earned its spot after securing two shutout wins, led by five goals from Sienna Tavolacci. New Rochelle boys soccer enters the poll following a 2-1 victory over John Jay-East Fishkill on September 5. Additionally, Rye girls soccer was nominated after tournament wins against St. Mary's of Lancaster and Shenendehowa, while the Rye girls volleyball team qualified after sweeping Tappan Zee in straight sets. Coaches and athletic departments submit nominations weekly for this program, which excludes football teams.
